Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CHEMICAL
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a group 2A carcinogen as recognized by the International Agency for the Research on Cancer (IRAC) and National Toxicology Program (NTP). A. The Short V-Bent curer Station 4 was exposed to NNitrosodiethylamine at an 8-hour time weighted average of 0.266 ug; the samples were collected on 12/22/92 during a 474 minute sampling period. Exposure calculations include a zero increment for the 6 minutes not sampled. B. The Short V-Belt curer Station 2 was exposed to NNitrosodiethylamine at an 8-hour time weighted average of 0.317 ug; the samples were collected on 12/22/92 during a zero increment for the 4 minutes not sampled. Feasible and useful abatement methods for reducing the exposures are: 1. Enclose or isolate the curing and off-gassing process to reduce employee exposure below detectable levels. 2. Install general or dilution ventilation in conjunction with local exhaust ventilation in the curing and off-gassing areas. 3. Develop a written work practice/hygiene program for employees exposed to detectable concentrations of N-Nitroso compounds.
