Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) Employees were permitted to enter areas that were subject to overhead falling object hazards during the course of the demolition operation. This exposed the employes to a potential trauma from falling objects. The American National Standards Institute ANSI A 10.6-1983 American National Standard for Demolition Operations Safety Requirements requires that no worker shall be permitted in any area that can be adversely affected when demolition operations are being performed. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct these hazards is to establish and enforce an adequate program to prohibit employees in the areas that were subject to overhead falling object hazards during the course of the demolition operation.
