Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970. The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazards associated with the hazard of serious crushing injuries: (a)Spray area, Employee(s) with the job title of spray painters, paint the underside of fully or partially raised truck dump bodies. By standing on the frame between the cab and the dump body without the use of safety bar or chocks; on or about 9/23/94 ABATEMENT NOTES: Among others, several feasible and acceptable methods to reduce this hazard are to: 1.Establish and enforce a training program for the employees in the proper procedures to follow while working around fully or partially raised dump truck bodies. 2.Follow the safety procedures supplied by the manufacturer for the use of the hydraulic system, once it's installed. Conduct periodic inspections by supervisors that the procedures are being followed. 3.Post manufacturers operating manuals in the service area for information and reference. 4.Follow the proper procedures of chocking or blocking the dump body when it is in the partially raised or fully extended position. A search of the OSHA Standards CFR Part 29 1910 and the ANSI Standard has been conducted and there are no applicable standards.
