Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a fall hazard. a) 2nd Floor, Chester Street Side - Employee reinstalling safety cable was not protected from falling from a distance of 16 feet without the use of a safety belt and lanyard or equivalent fall portection. Observed 6/18/92 A feasible and useful means of abatement, among other methods, would be for employees to be proctected by safety belts and lanyard or equvalent fall protection. OR IN THE ALTERNATIVE. 29 CFR 1910.28(a)(1): Ladders or scaffolds were not furnished for employees engaged in work that could not be done safely from the ground or from solid construction: a) 2nd Floor Chestnut St. Side - Employee reinstalling safety cable was not protected from falling from a distance greater than 16 feet. Observed 6/18/92
