Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: EXPLOSION
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to an explosion hazard: MODEL SHOP: A GAS SOLDERING/BRAZING TORCH WAS DIRECTLY CONNECTED TO THE PIPING SYSTEMS FOR THE COMPRESSED AIR AND NATURAL GAS SUPPLIES. PROTECTIVE DEVICES WERE NOT PROVIDED AT THE PIPE CONNECTIONS TO PREVENT BACKFLOW AND FLASHBACK INTO THE PIPING SYSTEMS. ONE FEASIBLE AND USEFUL METHOD TO CORRECT THE HAZARD, AMONG OTHERS, IS TO PROVIDE SUITABLE PROTECTIVE DEVICE(S) AT THE TORCH CONNECTION IN ACCORDANCE WITH GENERALLY ACCEPTED STANDARDS SUCH AS, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, THE NATIONAL FUEL GAS CODE, NATIONAL FIRE PROTECTION ASSOCIATION (NFPA) 54, SECTION 5.1.5. ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION IS NOT REQUIREDATION
