Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) Being struck by collapsing balcony decks. The balconies were attached to building structure using anchors. These anchors were pulling out, causing the balcony decks to be unstable. This condition was a result of severely deteriorated structual wooden members to which these balcony decks were attached Among other methods one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to have an engineering survey made by a competent person to determine the condition of the structure and then follow recommendation of correction as required.
