Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: GUARDING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to amputation of fingers/hand from unexpected operation of press brake: (a) Bending Bay - Steel Weld Press Brake, 300 tons, and Verson Press Brake, 100 tons, had unguarded foot treadles, on or about May 23, 1991. (b) Fabrication Area - Chicago Steel Press and Chicago Press and Knump Press Brake, both had exposed treadles mechanisms, on or about May 23, 1991. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to cover the foot treadle.
