Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to falling trees on August 17, 1992 in the logging site of Section 8 & 9 off Hwy. 43 South. (a) Employees were felling and topping trees without adequate training in that: 1). Trees were felled with other employees in the danger zone. 2). Employees topping trees in danger zone of saw hand. 3). Trees felled without undercutting to control direction of fall. 4). Both cuts were sometimes slanted and criss crossed. 5). Holding wood in some cases were cut in two, allowing the saw hand no control at all of the tree.
