Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: LIFTING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupationa Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crush injury from falling material because of an overloaded lifting device: a) Building "D", Piston Pin Room - The Stak System Stanley Vidmar, number 18HC-520, was used beyond its maximum lifting capacity of 2500 pounds when two containers of 7N9805 Piston pins weighing 2517 and 2520 pounds each were stacked on the storage shelves, on or about November 28, 1989. Method of Abatement in these circumstances may include but are not limited to the following: a) Ensure that each container of piston pins has a gross weight of less than 2500 pounds.
