Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: LOCKOUT
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) The employer did not protect employees from the recognized hazard of being caught in or between the chain or slats of slat conveyor in areas such as the washing table of the east carrier table at the St. Martin Co-op, Inc., located in St. Martinsville, LA. The employer could have protected his employees by requiring any employee who is performing maintenance work, repair work, or housekeeping cleaning in or near mechanical, electrical systems, or pressure equipment that could be injured should some other employee turn on the control switch or valve, to lockout the equipment, or by some adequate means of protection. This condition occured on or about 12/02/87.
