Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) On or about August 15, 1986, an employee working in an elevator shaft (pit area) at 11800 SW 147th avenue, Miami, FL 33169, was exposed to the hazard of being struck by the cab (car) of the elevator when the cab of the elevator was not supported, braced, cribbed or blocked to ensure it would not drop. Among other methods one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to ensure that jack stands, blocking or cribbing is installed underneath the cab to assure employees safety while working between pinch points or in the pit area of the elevator shaft.
