Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) North Barley House, Durum House, and South Barley House, employees were exposed to potential fall hazards while operating the manually operated manlifts which were not provided with guardrails on the manlift car. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard would be to install a complete enclosure on the manlift car. b) North Barley House, Durum House, and South Barley House, employees were exposed to potential crushing hazard while working near the manually operated manlifts which were not provided with guardrails around the base of the manlift. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard would be to install protective guardrails around the base of the manually operated manlifts.
