Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CONFINED
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) Employees were exposed to possible confined space hazard such as oxygen deficiency, toxic chemicals, explosive and flammable vapors when employees entered and worked inside the scale pit, located between the Finishing Building East Bin and the West Chlorate Storage Bin. Feasible abatement methods include, but not limited to: 1) Following recognized procedures for confined space entry which include, planning by qualified persons, checking the space for oxygen deficiency, expolosive vapors, toxic fumes, ventilation, lockout/ tagout, standby people/ communication, proper tools and equipment, entry permit, continuous monitoring of the atmosphere, recordkeeping and other needed procedures.
