Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) On or about May 6, 1988, employees were exposed to hazard of being struck by falling trusses at Driftwood Plaza, in Jupiter, Florida. It was observed that continuous lateral bracing, cross bracing and diagonal bracing was not installed during erection specifically to prevent dominoing during erection. Among other methods one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard would be to ensure that the Truss Plate Institute BWT-76, Bracing Wood Truss Commentary and recommendations are in erectors possession and carried out and secure 2" x 4" bracing in the place of top, bottom and cross bracing cords.
