Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) Hazardous condition of steel structure (bar joist) failure due to lack of completed permanent bridgings and concentrated overloading of bar joist with two (2) bundles of roof decking. Exposing employees to hazards of falling from said structure and/or being struck by falling steel structures, at N.E. corner of new freezer addition - Southeastern Frozen Foods. On or about 1/12/87. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to provide completed permanent bridgings before loads are applied to the bar joists and to adquately distribute concentrated loads so that the carrying capacity of any bar joists is not exceeded.
