Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to being crushed by large diameter/long width paper rolls rolling through the sizer station, wrapper station, header station and scaler station due to the roll wrapper's stop lumber's inability to stop the paper rolls at each station. Among other methods, one feasible and useful method to correct this hazard is to rebuild the stopping devices at each station so that they are capable of stopping the heaviest paper rolls produced at the plant: Bond Mill, Lamb Roll Wrapper - Stopping devices at the sizer station, wrapper station, header station and scaler station were incapable of stopping the heaviest weight rolls produced at the plant, exposing wrapper employees to being struck by the moving rolls.
