Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) The hazard of fire, explosion, or release of toxic gases from the accidential mixing of 35% hydrogen peroxide, hydrochloric acid, zinc anodes, and sodium nitrate (kenvert 170-S) stored together in drums in the storage room for electroplating chemicals. Among other methods, one feasible abatement method to correct this hazard is to provide separate storage facilities for incompatible chemicals.
