Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that: a) Employees were exposed to fall hazards from elevated surfaces on S. Forest Bridge over I-90; potential falls up to 20' 8 3/4" to the road surface below. Roadway was carrying traffic traveling at speeds up to 55 MPH. No fall protection was being utilized by employees. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method of abatement is to instruct and enforce the use of safety belts, lifelines or the equivalent, as stipulated by ANSI A.10.13-1978, Safety Requirements for Steel Erection.
