Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CONFINED
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to confined space entry hazards: a. Due to testing the atmosphere of the No. 2 Boiler only once in an 8-hour period. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to test the atmosphere on a regular basis and/or anytime the worker leaves the confined space for any period of time such as luch breaks, etc. b. Confined space entry hazards due to the fact that the employee engaged in work inside No. 2 Boiler was not provided with a safety belt and lifeline attached to be utilized for immediate rescue purposes in the event of an emergency. Among other methods, one feasible and acdeptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to ensure that employees working in confined spaces are equipped with safety belts and attached lifelines.
