Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that: a) At the Terminal Services Co. undercoating area, employees were exposed to the hazard of being crushed while working under the raised hydraulic car hoist platform. One feasible and accepted abatement method to correct this hazard, among others, is to repair the safety latch on the steel safety support bar under the raised hoist. The hoist also needs repair to prevent a lurch when under load.
