Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The %% employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: Employees were exposed to hazardous area near and around Class 1 Division 1 environments which were not restricted so as to prevent undue exposure to these areas. Employees were allowed to pass by operations to which operators were afforded some protection by way of earth covered or other type of structure while the operation was being conducted. This practice placed employees at an undue risk of injury. a) Glaze and Screen Area b) 1,2, and 3, Glaze Barrel Area c) Blender Packer Area d) Conventional Blender Area Among other methods one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to limit access to these areas while in operation. Reference made to DOD Manual 4145.26M and Industry practice. Violation occurred on 3 June 89.
