Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being crushed by a vehicle slipping from an improperly designed and/or installed hydraulic lift: a) An employee repairing a company-owned vehicle elevated 5-1/2 feet high on a Dover rotary SP80 lift was exposed, in that the lift was not secured by bolts according to manufacturers installation instructions and lift parts were missing such as the rubber- cushioned pads and the wheel spotting dish, May 8, 1986. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to install and utilize lift in accordance with manufacturer specifications and instructions.
