Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) On August 20, 1986 employee(s) were exposed to a potential fall and/or crushing hazard with was caused by inadequate bracing and support of roof trusses. A feasible method of abatement includes, but is not limited to: adequate bracing of continuous lumber (no less than 2" x 4" nominal) running parallal to the ridge line and spaced 8" to 10" apart in the top chord and bottom chord planes. These are to be supplemented with diagonal bracing (no less than 2" x 4" nominal) spaced no more than twenty feet apart in the top and bottom chord planes and among the web members. These are to be secured with 16d nails.
