Abstract: At 7:30 a.m. on July 19, 2017, an employee was performing preventative maintenance on a Looper Car of Pickle Line 15. The employee stepped across the rail to check the wheels of the Looper Car on the hot mill side and onto the grating. As the employee stepped onto the grating, it collapsed and the employee fell within the grating to the bottom level where it landed on the employee. Emergency Services was contacted and the employee was transported to Weirton Medical before being transferred to UPMC Montefiore where surgery was performed to repair a broken ankle. The employee was hospitalized.
