Abstract: At approximately 7:00 p.m. on June 29, 2017, an employee and a helper, during the second shift, was pulling product off a conveyor belt to assist the operator, who was cutting the meat product with the band saw. The employee, who was only supposed to pull and stage product off the conveyor for the band saw operator as part of his activities, started removing trimmed beef pieces that are close to the band saw so that the operator could be more efficient during the production cycles. When the employee tried to move the trimmed pieces of beef, his left ring fingertip was partially amputated by the band saw. The doctors were able to save and stitched the finger back together. The employee was not hospitalized and returned to work on limited duty.
