Abstract: At approximately 2:10 p.m. on March 9, 1995, Employee #1 and two coworkers were surveying an intersection. Employee #1 was operating a transit on the turn island when the driver of a car apparently suffered a heart attack and lost control of his car. The vehicle went over the island, hitting a yellow post, hitting Employee #1, and hitting a stop sign without slowing from his estimated speed of more than 60 mph. The car continued across the road, carrying Employee #1. It struck another sign; went through a ditch, ejecting Employee #1; and came to rest in a field. Employee #1 died from the impact and the driver never regained consciousness and died several hours later.
