Abstract: On September 28, 2004, an employee was cutting peeler cores into firewood with the use of a swing cut-off saw. The saw was guarded by an enclosure which measured 16-in. wide by 20-in. deep. As the employee advanced a core, he cut off a 3-in. long piece, which became lodged in the saw channel when the saw receded. He reached under the guard to pull the chunk out and contacted the saw blade. Portions of the second, third and fourth fingers on his left hand were amputated. He was hospitalized and treated for his injuries.
