Abstract: On September 18, 2006, Employee #1, a cabinet installer for Imperial Custom Cabinets, was installing crown molding on some kitchen cabinets in a private residence. He had started to work at approximately 7:30 a.m. and was wearing safety glasses. He was using a nail gun (Senco Model SLP 20) with 0.75 inch pin nails to secure the molding strips. At approximately 10:30 a.m., he took off his safety glasses because they "were covered in drywall dust and were all fogged up." Employee #1 proceeded to use the pneumatic nail gun without his safety glasses on and a pin nail ricocheted off of another nail in the molding and penetrated his right eye at the edge of the iris and cornea. He was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital, was admitted and hospitalized. At the hospital it was discovered that he had suffered retinal tearing and surgery was performed.
