Abstract: Employee #1, a sheet metal worker, was working on the rolling machine rolling "spin-ins" when his left glove became entangled with the sheet metal being rolled and his left hand was pulled into the rolls. The in-running side of the rolls was not guarded with a fixed or self-adjusting barrier. The control device for the rolls is not of the constant contact type, but of the start/stop/reverse type, and there was no control bar, a lever, or other device installed across the front of the rolls at approximately knee height which when actuated will stop the motor and apply the brake. Employee #1 sustained serious injuries to his left index finger and thumb, and was hospitalized.
