Abstract: At 12:55 p.m. on November 20, 1998, Employee #1, a carpenter, sustained a serious head injury while working on the roof of a two-story house being remodeled. Employee #1 and a coworker were talking and walking on a flat roof. The coworker called out to Employee #1 to watch out for the roof opening. Employee #1 lost his footing or tripped and fell backwards through the unguarded roof opening of a skylight. Employee #1 fell 15 feet 2 inches, striking his head on the second floor stairwell landing. Employee #1 was transferred to the UCLA Medical Center where he was diagnosed with massive brain injuries. Employee #1 spent about three weeks in the hospital.
