Abstract: Employee #1, was working alone on a metal 12-foot extension ladder painting the side of a building. The ladder, which extended out approximately 15 feet, was struck by a person running by, causing the ladder to fall end first and slide down the wall. The ladder was equipped with a spreader bar to give it additional stability. Employee #1 sustained a fracture to his left foot when it slipped off the rung as his foot struck the ground. The individual causing the accident did not stop and left the area. There was no one in the area to assist Employee #1. He therefore drove himself to the to the hospital for treatment.
