Abstract: A journeyman carpenter was attempting to gain access to the roof of a hotel under construction from the third-floor interior catwalk. He climbed 4.5 ft onto the ceiling of the elevator shaft to start his climb up to the roof opening by means of the trusses. The ceiling of the elevator shaft was constructed of drywall and could not support the employee's weight. He fell 33 ft through the drywall to the first-floor platform and was hospitalized for multiple injuries.
