Abstract: At 8:00 a.m. on August 3, 2002, Employee #1 was in the milling department, blanking out, and jointing poplar wood to make molding for Louvered windows. He first used a rough saw, to cut the poplar into 1/16 in. wild pieces and then prepared a Delta Milwaukee table saw, #D12, for ripping. Employee #1 tried to remove the off-fall with a wooden push stick, but the stick became caught by the front facing of the saw's 12 in. carbide tip blade. The push stick flew back from the blade and struck the right lens of the employer safety glasses. Employee #1 lens popped inward and struck his right eye were he sustained an injury to his retina. Employee #1 was transported to California hospital in Los Angeles, where he was admitted for two nights.
