Abstract: At approximately 8:13 a.m., on or about January 19, 2005, Employees #1, #2, and #3, of the City of Beaverton, were placing cones in a parking lot for a motorcycle course. The employees were riding on the tailgate of a Chevrolet pickup truck when the truck's driver went over a slight incline in the parking lot. The change in the truck's attitude transferred the weight of the individuals into an additional downward force, and the cables supporting the tailgate broke, sending the employees onto the tarmac. Employee #1 and Employee #2 were injured and transported to the hospital. Employee #3 was not injured. Further investigation revealed that the cables had been the subject of a recall for injuring other workers in this same way.
