Abstract: At 2:00 p.m. on November 24, 1998, Employee #1 and another worker were repairing vat walls. The vats are used to steam wood logs in preparation for the veneer process. Employee #1 collapsed in the vat and was found to be confused and disoriented. He was hospitalized at Salem Memorial Hospital for poisoning. Tests taken by the hospital revealed that he had 52 Carboxyl Hemoglobin in his system, equivalent to an exposure of 2,000 parts per million of carbon monoxide.
