Abstract: On November 1, 2010, Employees #1 through #11 were working in a new section of utility tunnel on the University of Utah campus. A power failure at the High Temperature Water Plant caused a valve to open and release water that had been heated to a temperature of 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Steam then traveled throughout the old and new sections of the tunnel system, burning all 11 employees. Employees #1 through #3 were hospitalized. The others were treated for minor burns.
