Abstract: At approximately 5:00 p.m. on November 11, 1996, Employee #1 was underground in the Lucky Seven stope, an underground ore excavation chamber at the Washington and Niagara mine near French Gulch, CA. He was removing lagging from the vein sets (working platforms within the stope) when he stepped back onto a lagging that slipped off the stud on which it was laying. Employee #1 lost his balance and fell approximately 12 ft, landing on his head. His partner went to his aid and, after several minutes, Employee #1 transported himself down the raise and to the outside. He was taken to the Redding Medical Center, where he was diagnosed with soft tissue trauma and observed for a concussion.
