Abstract: At approximately 10:00 a.m. on August 25, 2005, Employee #1 was ripping a piece of 2-inch by 8-inch Douglas Fir Lumber into a 2-inch by 4-inch piece, using an EME KS 3000 Table Saw. He was pushing the lumber with his left hand, without using a push stick, when his hand came in contact with the blade. There was no guard or hood over the blade, nor was there an anti-kickback device or spreader on the table saw. He was taken to a clinic in Oakland, then to Alameda Hospital Emergency Room for further treatment. It was later determined to transfer him to California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco, where he had surgery to repair the partially amputated index finger, and was hospitalized for six days.
