Abstract: On May 8, 2006, Employee #1 was working as a carpenter at a construction site, where he was using a pneumatic 16-penny-nailgun to nail a block next to a header. Employee #1 was approximately 8 feet off the ground, standing on the plate of an exterior garage wall. When he pulled the trigger and discharged a nail, it hit another nail, bounced back, and hit him in the face. The nail lodged in Employee #1's face next to his right cheek bone. He was taken to UC Davis Medical Center, where he was hospitalized for three days. The nailer was a Model Number NR83A2 Hitachi, 3.25-inch strip nailer. The safety on the pneumatic nailer was working, and Employee #1 had undergone safety training on the use of the nailer. Employee #1 was wearing his safety glasses when the accident occurred.
