Abstract: At about 3:45 p.m. on September 29, 2003, Employee #1 was an employee of Ellis & Ellis Signs, a sign manufacturing shop in Sacramento, CA. Operating a table saw in the firm's production area, he was ripping 2.625-inch strips on a table saw with a 10-inch blade. The hood guard was in the "up" position about 4 inches above the material being cut, and he was using a push stick. After cutting a strip, as he was reaching across the saw blade, he struck the blade with several fingers, lacerating three of them. First aid was provided by the employer before Employee #1 was driven to Kaiser Hospital in Sacramento, CA. Extensive surgery was required to repair the fingers.
