Abstract: On June 29, 2005, Employee #1 was operating the tug cart, which was neither provided with roll-over protective structures, nor equipped with a seat belt. The vehicle struck a 4-in.-high curb alongside a service road, which was adjacent to the runway at Los Angeles International Airport. The accident occurred when Employee #1 was looking back over his shoulder while driving the tug cart to allow another vehicle on the service road to pass him. He pulled over to the right side and was traveling forward less than 15 m.p.h. Employee #1 was ejected from the tow tractor when the front tire hit the curb. The tow tractor continued moving down the road approximately 50-yards, where it came to a stop after striking the curb again. Employee #1 sustained a head injury and was hospitalized.
