Abstract: At 11:30 a.m. on January 25, 2005, an ironworker was part of a crew loading decking on a steel structure. He was employed by The Herrick Corporation in El Segundo, CA. A load of decking unexpectedly rotated and struck the employee's shoulder. He lost his balance and fell off the beam he stood on. The employee fell approximately 14 ft to the beam below, which he grabbed onto. He hung onto that beam for a short time, and then dropped approximately 8 ft more to the next deck level. He landed on his feet and broke his ankle. The employee was taken to a nearby hospital, where his ankle was put in a cast. He also required seven stitches to his right thigh. The accident did not require hospitalization.
