Abstract: At approximately 12:15 pm on October 31, 2000, Employee #1 suffered 2nd and 3rd degree burns to both legs. Employee #1 was heat cambering a steel beam and accidentally dropped his rose bud, a long-handle heating torch. The rosebud's flame burned through the oxygen and propane gas hoses at the Employee #1's feet. Escaping gas caught fire and ignited polyester sweat pants he was wearing under his coveralls. The synthetic polyester material burned, melted and fused to his skin. Coworkers quickly extinguished the flames with a hose. Employee #1 was admitted to a burn center and hospitalized for 12 days.
