Abstract: On March 22, 2005, Employee #1 was working for a firm that installed and repaired roofing on residential and commercial buildings. On that day, he and Employee #2 and Employee #3 were repairing a flat roof on an industrial building. The roof was approximately 120 ft long, 60 ft wide, and 19 ft above the floor. It was surrounded by an 8-in. parapet. As Employee #1 threw a wooden pallet from the roof to the ground at the rear of this building, a nail on the pallet got caught in his glove. He got pulled down to the paved floor along with the pallet, falling some 19 ft 3 in. from the parapet to the floor. He fractured his left foot and ankle and required surgery. He was hospitalized for four days. Employee #1 was not a contract employee.
