Abstract: At approximately 8:40 a.m. on September 21, 2004, Employee #1, a house painter for Color Concepts, was working on a home in Bakersfield, CA. A supervisor gave him the middle section of an extension ladder so he could reach the front roof. Employee #1 climbed the ladder and was stepping onto the roof when the ladder slid out, causing him and the ladder to fall approximately 10 ft to the ground. He sustained a fractured back and was taken to Kern Medical Center in Bakersfield, where he was hospitalized. The ladder did not have any feet.
