Abstract: At approximately 1:56 p.m. on September 6, 2003, Employee #1, an ironworker, and a coworker, also an ironworker, were laying decking at a construction site. The employees were at a level of 17 ft and 10 in. They broke open the bundle of decking (1.5 in. by 3 ft wide and 35 ft and 6 in. long) and were laying down the first sheet. Employee #1 stepped back and fell through a hole in the decking to the concrete floor. Emergency personnel were called and Employee #1 was transported to Kern Medical Center in Bakersfield, California, where he was hospitalized.
