Abstract: On May 5, 2003, Employee #1 was on the second floor of a single family residence under construction. The employee was doing "pick-up work" which consisted of cutting the corner of 2-foot by 6-foot blocks for "shear backing." The employee was using a Skilsaw and was holding a 3- to 4-foot-long block in his left hand and the Skilsaw in his right hand. The saw became stuck in the wood, bounced up, and cut his left wrist. He suffered damage to the bone, nerves, and tendons in his left wrist and was transported by emergency services to Kaiser Hospital in Woodland Hills where he was hospitalized for 3 days.
