Abstract: On April 30, 2003, Employee #1 and two coworkers were "making beam packages" which consisted of locating beams that were individually wrapped in plastic and located in stacks near a retaining wall. They walked around looking for numbers on the beam packages that corresponded with the numbers on a list. The accident occurred when Employee #1 was walking alongside stacks of beams that were banded together with three metal bands. The beams were 18 feet or 20 feet long by 15 inches wide by 5.125 inches thick and were stacked six high in two stacks. One of the coworkers cut two of the metal bands that were around the stacks of beams. When the third metal band was cut, one of the stacks fell over and the beams landed on the right leg of Employee #1. The coworkers were able to lift the beams off Employee #1 and he was transported to Antelope Valley Hospital where he was hospitalized for 6 days.
