Abstract: On November 12, 2002, Employee #1, a day laborer working for Pars construction company, was cutting a 2 in by 4 in piece of lumber. At the time of the incident, Employee #1 was working with a non-supervisory coworker. At some point, Employee #1 sustained a partial amputation of his left thumb, which required hospitalization. Neither the coworker nor Employee #1 could be reached for further clarification on the incident. It is unknown if Employee #1 had the machine guard chocked in an upward position preventing the guard from coming down properly.
