Abstract: On August 7, 2002, Employee #1, a carpenter for a framing contractor, was installing HVAC cans in a single-family, two-story home under construction. He was standing on a 6-ft ladder on the second floor, blocking HVAC cans into the trusses of a 9-ft-tall bedroom ceiling. Employee #1 was driving an 8-penny nail through the sheet metal of the HVAC can when the nail glanced off and struck his right eye, causing blunt force trauma injuries. He was not wearing eye protection at the time of the accident.
